(This technically counts as mixed media, doesn't it? Eh.)

Don't have an actual quilling tool? Use a safety pin and hope it doesn't slip.
Don't have proper quilling paper? Cut up some stiff paper and realise that still paper curls very badly.
Don't have a nice, neat adhesive sheet? Slather the paper with glue and make a mess of it.
And the rest? Stick a black pen into all the corners AFTER you've glued down everything and try to draw.

I'm not sure if I'd call this determination or sheer bloodymindedness.
